It remains a genuine job with steady openings across Indian enterprises, but be honest about direction: growth has moved to the cloud-facing version of this work, and administrators who have not added cloud or automation skills find their salary progression flattens after a few years. As a first job it is a reasonable entry into infrastructure, provided it is treated as a starting point rather than a destination.
