Software engineer is the broadest title in Indian technology hiring, covering everyone from a fresher writing their first production ticket to an engineer owning a service end to end. In Pune the demand splits between IT services and captive centres for global firms, and between product companies in Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Baner. What has changed is the bar: employers now screen for working code and version-controlled projects rather than coursework. A candidate who can read an unfamiliar codebase, debug it and ship a fix is far more employable than one who has only completed a syllabus.
