Platform engineers build the internal tooling that other engineering teams build on — self-service environments, golden paths, developer portals and the guardrails that let teams ship without filing tickets. It has been named repeatedly as an emerging demand area in Indian capability centres, essentially because organisations discovered that DevOps as a shared-responsibility model does not scale past a certain headcount. It is a senior track, generally reached from DevOps, SRE or infrastructure engineering after several years.
