Growth marketing managers run rapid experiments across acquisition, activation and retention to move one number. The role came out of startups and remains concentrated there in India, in fintech, consumer apps, gaming and ed-tech. It demands more analytical and product literacy than conventional marketing, and it suits people comfortable with most of their experiments failing. Pay is high because the role is judged on a metric rather than on activity.
