Biomedical engineers in India work mostly in hospitals and with equipment suppliers, maintaining and supporting diagnostic and therapeutic devices. It is a smaller field than the graduate numbers suggest, and many biomedical graduates end up in service and application roles rather than design. Demand has been supported by private hospital expansion and by growing domestic medical device manufacturing, but salaries start below mainstream engineering and progression depends on moving toward specialisation.
